Subject: Creation of RSI Foundation

No I didn't just fade away.....I and at least one other person (you know who
you are if you want to name yourself---and I hope that he doesn't mind that I
left some of his comments in here) are taking this seriously. Where the
money is going to come from is the only thing that I don't have a clue for
right now. I'm putting up the filing fee to incorporate but after that
geeeee.....as a student well....what can I say....you get the picture. I'm
working on the Articles of Incorporation for a non-profit right now and I may
need some input.
Any objections to posting them when I'm ready? And information resources?
Should we maybe have another newsgroup for this? If so, anyone willing to
host it....I don't have that kind of know-how or influence with the powers to
be around here. Or would you rather it stayed here so you know what's
happening?
Grants are out there but finding and getting them is the part I'm not
familiar with.....any of you have experience with it? Or any other ideas?

One thing that I am willing to do is this: I have started selling the
Handeze gloves for myself in this area. If any of you want some and buy them
through me, I will guarantee a percentage of my net profit to the foundation
or whatever we call it............geeeez....I know blantant
advertising......please don't flame me......my hands couldn't handle it but
it's the only really good idea that I could think of. The more volume I
get.....the better the profit.....the more money to the foundation...ok.
If the volume is high enough I may even consider offering them at a lower
cost but we'll see......at the moment the cost would be the same as ordering
them directly from Dome.
Oh....anyone know about the ergonomics of Handeze......I'd hate to start
a policing organization based on something that wasn't sound ergonomically
speaking.....ethics.

   >So far this is what I've come up with. When I have this roughly
   finalized,
   >I'm thinking of posting it to the group to get their input.
   >
   >NAME OF ORGANIZATION: ? (suggestions?)
My ideas RSI Foundation, RSI Coalition

   >STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
   >The purpose or goals of _______________shall be to:
   >1. Disseminate information to and educate RSI Suffers and the general
   > public.
   Agreed.
--------------------------------------------------------
I tried this at the Mayfest (huge campus bash with vendors) yesterday and
today without a lot of success (yes I did get a table--thanks for your
suggestions)......but tomorrow I will move it to a better spot. They may
kick me out but everyone else did it so.......
At any rate, it's going to be harder than I expected. If they don't
have the problem yet they just aren't interested. We're going to have to
have a pretty hefty education and advertising campaign to make any headway.
Sort of like the `wearing seat belts' and `don't do drugs' advertising we've
seen of late.

   >2. Encourage and support as able and necessary RSI research.

The archiving of such research results, possibly drawing correlations
between various studies (linking Stress -> vitamins -> environment -> work
   habits -> etc...).  I envision CD-ROM.

   >3. Political/social/legal promotion and support of RSI sufferers and
   > ergonomic legislation.

   >4. Police the term "Ergonomic" within the community.
   > (thanks--I didn't think of this one. There should probably be
   > some legislation presented for this one.)

   >5. Other?/open to discussion.
Listings or doctors, lawyers, support groups
   Of course, a quarterly newsletter.
Help establish prescidents {sp?}, legal or otherwise.
   Public-Awareness commercials?
--------------------------------------------
All good ideas too.....anymore out there.....we may have to start with one or
two focuses to begin with and to match resources but as we grow we can
expand. Which should be the priorities?

   > I won't go into all of the other questions and issues because a
   >lot of that should be covered in the bylaws/charter of such an
   organization
   >(ie. who directs, organization structure, etc.).

   > At first, the scope of the organization should be limited to a
   >national level but should it be organized with an eye to becoming
   >international?
Not really sure if this COULD be international. I've been doing some
checks about the European Union views of RSI, and it's quite a bit
different. Other cultures would be even more different. I'm undecided at
this point, and have feelings both ways. Definately national at first,
   though.
-----------------------------
Any comments?

   > Fund raising is my big concern at the moment as start-up costs
   >will include fees (legal, registration, etc). I may be able to find some
   >sources of revenue but they would probably be time
   intensive....applications,
   >waiting periods, etc. Perhaps there is someone on the list
   >with the necessary expertise that would be willing to aid in the legal
   area.
   >I think I remember one or two persons posting that claimed legal
   background.

I will be doing this for the next year or so. This is what I want to do
full-time. Remember that. This is what I will be wanting to do In 12
months, and beyond. I know most people just want to know the solution...
I want to be there and FIND the solution.
------------------------------------------------------
Thought I'd leave this in so that you'd all know there's someone out there
trying to do something about this. I'll let you know who it is if he doesn't
mind but I'm not sure if he's back from vacation yet and I won't be in this
week to find out. I'm only withholding because I saw someone get flamed for
posting personal mail so........until he says it's a go...it's not.

For this week.....send any personal posts to me at
chris.miller@m.cc.utah.edu
I will be checking it.... but probably not this address before Monday. Well
they're locking up and I do want to go home tonight rather than sleep in the
library so.....TWYL
