Speech v 1.5 works with gaim 0.67 only.
Speech v 1.6 works with gaim 0.68 only.
Speech v 2.0 works with gaim 0.74 and probably later versions.

Provides a way to forward notices and messages to voice synthesis software
via external commands, specified via the environment variable TEXT2SPEECH
(which must be able to read text from standard in).  If TEXT2SPEECH is not
given, the plugin attempts to use the command "text2wave", which is part
of the Festival speech synthesis system, in combination with "sox" under
Solaris or Linux.

By default, all incoming messages are read aloud in the format:

	<user> "says" <message>

If a username has an alias that will be spoken instead, with preference
for any segment enclosed in [brackets], and even more so for {braces}.
This allows aliases to be formatted as:

   <user> [<actual-name>] {<phonetic-name>}

for those who wish to see all such details.

The plugin will also announce entry and exit of users dynamically.
