PROGRAM
     user (version 2.1)

DESCRIPTION
     user is a utility for output of selected  information  about
     named  users.  If no user argument is supplied, current user
     as obtained through getuid(2) is used.  If no specific  out-
     put option is specified, the user's real name is printed.

PURPOSE
     the id(1) and finger(1) programs both make it extremely difficult
     to extract specific information about a user or set of users
     without using awk(1) and other software to pare down the output
     to just the information desired.   user(1) solves this.

ENVIRONMENT
     This program has been tested on:

         Sun SPARC / SunOS 5.5.1 to 5.7
         MIPS / SGI IRIX 5.3 to 6.1
         i686 / Redhat Linux 4.2 to 9.0
