Starborn Powers
Acquiring
On the original (pre-NG) run:
- As you gather artifacts, Vlad will use them to find associated temples
- Which planet the temples are found varies [1]
- Each named temple teaches a specific power, omitting only one power
- The last power is learned in the Unity
- A Barrett quest may let you learn/improve Parallel Self twice in a single run
- It's useful to ensure you've learned every power before faceplanting into
the Orb in the Unity
[1] certainly in different universes,
unsure about different characters in the same one.
Powers and notes
General notes:
- A buff power can be recast while still active to keep it active.
It doesn't stack.
- Different buff powers can be stacked
- After enough temple visits, it becomes totally viable to stack three,
even four or so buff powers at a time, such as combining Void Form, Sense
Star Stuff, and Earthbound during ship captures where gravity is disabled
(Earthbound restores the ability to use Stealth)
- There is no power that cancels other powers
- Multiple attack powers' effects stack on targets,
both like powers (like Solar Flare)and unlike powers
- Powers can be cast in the brief interval between actuating a docker, door
between instances, etc, and getting pulled through (like Void Form)
- Switching powers too quickly after using a power can abort the activation
- Powers are cast from your left side, about mid torso height, so pay
attention to whether your left (arm?) has a clear line of fire or you'll
just hit doorjambs and, when crouched, railings
- Aimed powers use nearly the same vector as a sighted gun, so you can
sight with a gun, drop it while not moving the mouse (if applicable) and
fire Solar Flare, for example (keeping in mind it comes from a bit to
your left…)
Listed with name, ( temple ), and notes.
- Alien Reanimation (Phi)
- Consider carefully whether to teach this to followers
(i.e. with commands, notably to YOU?) since the results are messy
- Anti-Gravity Field (Eta)
- Totally confuses the target while it's active
- Shockingly, this is a ranged attack useful at a long distance
- Create Vacuum (Gamma)
- Creator's Peace (Nu)
- Can pop you out of combat and reënable Fast Travel (if enemies are all close enough)
- Earthbound (Epsilon)
- Reënables stealth in starships where gravity was turned off
- Elemental Pull (Psi)
- At high tiers, may overencumber the player with 100s of kg of resources
- Works through walls, explodes some types of containers
- Eternal Harvest (Lambda)
- Grav Dash (Zeta)
- Hitting anything may still just kill the player
- This includes on what looked like level ground
- When used in the air, kills any forward running momentum when the power ends
- Strictly horizontal, can't be used to angle up or down
- There's a dead period as it expires when you fall slightly before being able to boost
- Works in Moon Form
- (Might work when frozen by another starborn's Sunless Space)
- Gravity Wave (Beta)
- Affects your companions in AoE. Most get upset, and rarely try to kill you.
- Gravity Well (Delta)
- Often pulls objects out of closed glass-fronted cabinets, especially on ships
- Casting this on the ceiling can be handy to pull things out of certain containers
- Affects your companions in AoE. Most get upset, and rarely try to kill you.
- Casting another near an existing one will gobble up most of the older one's content
- Inner Daemon (Upsilon)
- Life Forced (Pi)
- Moon Form (Rho)
- May not be reliable against Va'ruun phantoms
- You can move yourself with Grav Dash (see warnings on that item)
- Parallel Self (Sigma)
- Your twin doesn't talk. Although Barrett's did, due to some quirk they discuss
- "YOU?"'s twin also doesn't talk.
- Pretty sure your power-called twin and your twin's twin won't talk either ;-)
- Particle Beam (Omega)
- Personal Atmosphere (Alpha)
- Protects against vacuum
- Does not protect against most atmospheric hazards
- At higher tiers, recasts can eventually keep it up constantly as long as needed
- Phased Time (Mu - Buried Temple on Masada Iii)
- Learned when acquiring artifact Mu in the Buried Temple
- Precognition (Iota)
- Shows future NPC pathing and aids dialogue and persuasion (IIRC)
- Reactive Shield (Tau)
- Invaluable against so many types of incoming fire
- Especially amusing against EM weapons
- Sense Star Stuff (Chi)
- Colors will distinguish normal humans from starborn
- There is a brilliant mod that extends it to sense corpses (in red)
- Solar Flare (Theta)
- Removes a percentage of enemy health, amazing against high-health enemies
- Can sever all four pins on emergency doors. From either side
- Sunless Space (Kappa)
- Works through walls, explodes some types of containers
- Great to cast at the floor in the middle of a bunch of enemies
- Supernova (Xi)
- Works through walls, probably explodes some types of containers
- Generally doesn't kill elites unless you do it several times,
which is usually quite slow unless you're burning essences
- Void Form (Omicron)
- Also ends whenever you attempt to manipulate physical objects too casually
Commands
Powers are enabled with addspell and made more effective with addperk .
To reverse these, use removespell and removeperk ,
the latter up to the same number of times addperk was used.
A target must be selected first.
All four commands take a single argument from one of two lists.
Listed with spell-id, perk-id, special (✓ X ? or -),
name, ( temple ), and notes.
The "special" refers to notes in some non-canonical commentary
on "YOU?" in the next section.
These are ordered by spell ID:

Non-canonical notes on teaching "YOU?" powers with commands
These reflect experiments I did with the "YOU?" follower in the main
universe where this follower exists.
They are a work-in-progress.
Being able to teach "YOU?" powers (presumably by taking him/her to the
appropriate temples, right?) is quite immersive, and the results are
amazing.
Sadly though, the dialogue never accounts for having been taught, even
though the powers are being used extensively.
In my experiments, I only used addspell and addperk once each for
each power taught.
Nothing below should be considered authoritative - more of a quick hack to
see what would happen.
Didn't expect it to be quite as awesome as it turned out.
- Teach "YOU?" the powers marked with "✓".
- Avoid teaching "YOU?" those marked with "X" due to their situation-specific
nature (or possibly lack of AI support)
- Other powers listed with "-" (and "?" with even less certainty)
reportedly are either unteachable to,
or won't be used by "YOU?",
or would interfere with the player in obvious ways even if they would work.
The first command should be to make "YOU?" the subject of following commands via:
prid 1a9054 ; (not certain this will be the same in all games)
setav starpowerratemult 100 ; These (lower than default) settings
setav starpowerrecoverrate 1 ; for "YOU?" match the players own settings.
setav starpower 60
; addkeyword can be reverse later with removekeyword
addkeyword e53a8 ; blocks terrormorph mind control, same as the player's immunity
Use addspell <spell-id> to add the ability to use the power.
Use addperk <perk-id> to raise effectiveness of a power, up to 10 (11?) times.
Example (this notes which ones reportedly have special AI support) ordered by ID
; addspell commands can be reverted with removespell
addspell 23af02 ; void form
addspell 23af03 ; supernova
addspell 23af04 ; AI sunless space
addspell 23af05 ; solar flare
addspell 23af06 ; AI reactive shield
addspell 23af07 ; particle beam
addspell 23af08 ; AI parallel self
addspell 23af09 ; AI moon form
addspell 23af0a ; AI life forced
addspell 23af0b ; AI inner daemon
addspell 23af0c ; AI gravity wave
addspell 23af0d ; AI grav dash
addspell 23af0f ; create vacuum
;addspell 23af10 ; AI alien reanimation - don't use this
;addspell 2bacba ; anti-gravity field - (I didn't test this)
The related addperk commands, ordered by ID
; addsperk commands can be reverted with removeperk (the same number of times)
addperk 25e186 ; void form
addperk 25e187 ; supernova
addperk 25e188 ; AI sunless space
addperk 25e189 ; solar flare
addperk 25e18d ; particle beam
addperk 25e18e ; AI parallel self
addperk 25e190 ; AI moon form
addperk 25e191 ; AI life forced
addperk 25e192 ; AI inner demon
addperk 25e193 ; AI gravity wave
addperk 25e195 ; gravity well
addperk 25e196 ; AI grav dash
;addperk 25e19c ; anti-gravity field - (I didn't test this)
;addperk 25e19d ; AI alien reanimation - don't use this
addperk 25e19e ; AI reactive shield
In the end I wrote bat scripts for both adding powers as described,
and a second to strip them all back off again.
