December 4, 2007 Pam North P.O. Box 343 Pinecliffe, CO 80471 (303) 642-3162 Lou Bissett President of Board of Directors Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum 1111 Washington Avenue Golden, CO 80401 Dear Ms. Bissett, I am responding to your current need for someone to fill the position of executive director in your museum. I have founded, organized, and effectively publicized a large, non-profit wildlife rehabilitation organization, Wildlife Rescue, Inc. in Austin, Texas, in 1977. I was its first president, and I worked actively with this group during the years that I lived in Austin, assisting and coordinating its growth to approximately 150 members. Believe it when I say I understand limited funds and the need for volunteers! Wildlife Rescue, Inc. is still in existence, and handles 3,000 to 3,500 animals and birds annually. While I was not directly involved in obtaining grants, I am aware that information and classes are readily available in this field, and as I am a good researcher, I feel that I could access that information and quickly learn what is needed to fulfill that aspect of the position. I have excellent writing and proof-reading skills. I have been writing on a weekly basis for local newspapers for nearly ten years, having responsibility for at least one major article (often additional features as well) in each issue. I also have written several articles for a national magazine, many press releases on various subjects, and advertising copy for a small television station in Texas. Writing samples can be furnished upon request. I also have supervised the arts program for a recreation facility, creating classes for both senior citizens and children. A class I originated and taught for a neighboring recreation center was the most successful class for kids that the center had ever held, and an adult class I organized for incorporating mola techniques into clothing was also very popular. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and being able to introduce them to new subjects and skills. I have an extensive creative background, having won an art scholarship and several awards for my art, sculpture and photography. I have designed a county flag and several logos for various organizations, events and businesses, and I have some experience in layouts. I also have an interest in fabric arts, quilting included. While these attributes were not mentioned in your job description, quilts are an art form, and a good artistic sense and a few additional skills thrown in surely might find a use somewhere! My career field in most recent years has been real property appraisal, but encompassed within the duties of that job were many aspects that could have relevance to the position with your museum. My job as Chief Appraiser was complex and carried a high degree of responsibility, as I valued all the residential, commercial and land properties in the county, and my work was audited at intervals by the state. I have extensive successful experience in dealing with people; providing outstanding service to the public is something on which I place great importance and take pride in offering. Organization, attention to detail and accurate record-keeping was necessarily inherent in my profession; I leave an excellent paper trail. I am very motivated to perform and take reponsibility seriously: I'm comfortable with multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and working well under pressure. I can work effectively alone or with others. I have good computer skills; I own my own computer, and presently work in Linux, but am familiar with Microsoft Windows as well. I served for ten years on the Gilpin County Planning Commission, working with many key areas of concern, such as zoning and growth issues, developing the county's Master Plan, subdivision regulations, and various county codes. Coordinating with members of this commission to achieve long-range goals was a valuable experience. Prior to my career in property appraisal, I accumulated several years of work experience in retail sales, public relations, publicity, management, and light bookkeeping; all are helpful in many jobs. Additionally, I have a deep interest in history and its preservation; much of my writing has focused on various historic topics. I also have some experience in setting up theme displays. I have visited your website, and I find the scope of your exhibits exciting. I would love to be involved on a daily basis with the operation of your museum, and be able to contribute in any way that I could to its continues growth and success. It is my hope that you will give serious consideration to my qualifications and desire to work in your executive director position. I am most willing to come in for an interview, so please feel free to call me at the number above. Thank you for your attention. Sincerely, Pam North
