SHADY LADIES PLAN SURPRISE

by Pam North

Those sly Shady Ladies have something up their pretty puffed sleeves for
the upcoming 27th Annual Madam Lou Bunch celebration this coming
Saturday, June 16th. You won't want to miss this one -- you've never
seen the Shady Ladies like this before!

In case you don't know, Lou Bunch was the last madam to operate a
"boarding house" in Central City before the demise of the gold boom, and
at a hefty 310 pounds, there was a whole bunch of Lou! She had a
bordello at the end of Pine Street, but in addition to being known for
her parlor house, she is also credited with compassionately nursing many
of the miners who fell ill during the city's influenza outbreak, saving
many lives. This rootin', tootin', bawdy and brazen celebration pays
homage to Lou and all those hard-working "ladies of the evening" who
plied their trade in order to survive in the early days of the West.

Don your Victorian dresses, garters and corsets, and come join the fun.
The boisterous festivities kick off at noon, beginning with music from
the Wagon Wheelers, followed by performances by the Sporting House
Girls, the "A Step Above" senior ladies, a parade, and the world-famous
Bed Races. Indulge your appetite at Main Street's many food booths, and
take a carriage ride through the town, then dance away the evening at
the Madams and Miners Ball at the historic Teller House. It's a day to
kick up your heels, so mark it on your calendar and get ready to enjoy
yourself.
