Capturing ships:
- In space, shoot a ship, preferably from behind, ideally with Targeting locked on to their engines, disable them (can be much faster with EM weapons), close to without 500m, dock, purge all life from the ship, sit in the Pilot's chair to (usually) take it over. Raise Piloting skill to capture higher class ships. Getting back into your original ship is fraught with drama, the hint is to undock in the new ship, start a grav jump, let is mostly spin up, abort it, redock with your old ship. Or get the Sit to Add Ship to Fleet mod instead
- On ground, for normal ships, bypass any crew around the ship, get into the bay, make a save, invade the ship, purge all life from it, sit in Pilot's chair to (usually) take it over. You may need to go outside and kill and remaining crew there to complete ship capture - but do them last since killing them all often makes a ship launch, which can sometimes happen anyway, and they may have enemies in space that will start shooting them, meaning you have to capture the ship before it's destroyed - all in all, a rough deal, make sure you made a save
- On ground, for Starborn Guardian ships, be running up the wing as they're still landing, trigger the door on the hull under it, this usually will get you in just as the crew got out, capture ship, go back out, kill Starborn to gather Essences
- In a Guardian, use two Gravity Torpedo hits to stun your foe, then blow through their shields and target the Engines, restun as needed, otherwise as normal
Some details have been omitted, but that's enough to get going.
